ZAGREB, May 15 (Hina) - "Once again, as so many times since the
beginning of the aggression, Croatia has taken the first step
showing its good will," today's VECERNJI LIST says in a piece
commenting on Croatian Foreign Minister Mate Granic's statement of
the last Friday. (Granic said the Croatian army would pull out of
the would be UN-controlled buffer zones - by Sunday from Knin
sector and "in a reasonable time" from the other two.)
The paper recalls that the entrance of some Croatian army
units into the zone was only a respond to the same advances of the
Serb paramilitaries, undisturbed by UNCRO forces.
"The entrance of the Croatian army to the separation zones,
and taking positions opposite to Serb paramilitaies was the act of
self-defence and protection," the paper says recalling that the
Serbs had put they heavy weapons inside the buffer, albeit the
heavy weapons, according to Zagreb agreement, were to have been
removed from there.
The comment piece forecasts that the rebel Serbs' reply to
this Croatian unilateral move was to be known very soon. "By that
time we shall also have the answer to what the international
mediators meant by saying the presence of the Croatian army in the
'blue zones' was cramping their peace efforts and had they just
accidentally forgotten to inform the public and their New York
bosses that the Serb paramilitaries were the ones to break the
Zagreb agreement first, to drag the heavy weapons inside, to open
fire at the Croatian army positions and civilian targets, as well
as to block UN bases and troops."
