SARAJEVO, March 2 (Hina) - All UNPROFOR and UNHCR flights to
Sarajevo were cancelled because of gunfire that hit a UN jet while
taxiing on the runway on Thursday morning, the UN in Sarajevo said.
UN spokesman Gary Coward said the airlift was suspended after
several consecutive attacks on UN planes. An Ilyushin 76, which was
flying for the British ODA relief agency, was hit on Wednesday.
According to UNHCR spokesman Chris Janowski, ODA decided to
discontinue its participation in the airlift after its aircraft
came under fire three times in the past five days.
Coward said the airlift would be suspended until the
circumstances surrounding the attack had been fully investigated.
But he said it would be very difficult to find out who was
responsible for the attack.
