SARAJEVO, Feb 24 (Hina) - Outgoing UNPROFOR commander for the
former Yugoslavia, Gen. Bertrand de Lapresle, and his successor
Gen. Bernard Janvier today met Bosnian Federation vice president
Ejup Ganic, in Sarajevo.
De Lapresle stressed the importance of maintaining the cease
fire in Bosnia-Herzegovina which was generaly holding in the entire
area except in Bihac, northeast Bosnia. He also explained that the
implementation of provisions in the agreement were progressing
slowly.
Responding to de Lapresle's statement on the establishment of
the efficient control by peacekeepers of the Croatian-Bosnian
border near Bihac area, Ganic said that such a move would encourage
a complete cease fire in this area.
Ganic said the Bosnian government would continue to fully
cooperate with UNPROFOR while simultaneously searching for a
peaceful solution.
