ZAGREB, Feb 6 (Hina) - The Croatian Helsinki Committee (HHO) today
released a statement saying it would not attend a working meeting
on promoting democracy in former Yugoslavia.
The meeting, convened by the "Erasmus Guild" group from Zagreb
and the Centre for Strategic and International Studies from
Washington, would be held in Zagreb on February 11-12.
The HHO argued that the agenda was drawn up "against all
criteria and in a totally unilateral way," criticizing that the
choice of participants was a result of views of "a Croatian sect
and a US institution, which is obviously not acquainted with the
whole matter."
The HHO statement, signed by vice president Slobodan Budak,
insisted that "there are no former Yugoslav countries but only
successor countries of the Socialist Federal Republic of
Yugoslavia. Yugoslavia is history for us and not a framework for
continued debates."
