SARAJEVO, Jan 28 (Hina) - Mayors of Sarajevo's sister-cities this
evening signed a declaration on support to the Bosnian capital and
its defence, and backed the request for the just peace solution.
The declaration underlines that Sarajevo is a symbol of as
well as the real life in variety and toleration, while its siege
was aimed at destroying democracy and cultural, economic and
civilizing progress.
The mayors warned that it was Sarajevo where the fundamental
right on life and coexistence were being defended today. They
called on all people of good will to join in the protection of the
principles that Sarajevo had been defending enduringly for 1,000
days.
Zagreb's Mayor, Branko Miksa, was among signatories of the
declaration that had been made to mark 1,000 days of resistance of
the Bosnian capital to the Serb siege.
Miksa said all signatories agreed that increased pressure
should be exerted on the inefficient Europe in order to quickly
find a settlement to the situation in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
He spoke of the cooperation between Sarajevo and Zagreb and
added that a year before programmes had been agreed for the
reconstruction of Sarajevo's infrastructure. At the time Zagreb
offered to send experts who could help in the city's reconstruction
as well as considerable financial assistance.
Miksa described the mayors' visit to Sarajevo as a sign of the
support to the city.
The celebration of the 1,000-day resistance to the siege
finished this evening by an exhibition of photoes and works of art
made during the war.
