ZAGREB, Dec 6 (Hina) - President Tudjman's chief-of-staff, Hrvoje
Sarinic, on Friday received the ambassadors of the Netherlands, the
United Kingdom and Italy, whose countries currently make up the
European "troika".
The ambassadors conveyed the European Union's views on the
need to fully and consistently implement the Basic Agreement in
order to successfully complete the peaceful reintegration of the
Croatian Danubian area.
Croatia was committed to the successful and timely completion
of the peaceful reintegration process, as testified by President
Tudjman's recent visit to Vukovar and his meeting with local Serb
representatives, Sarinic said.
Croatian authorities would speed up the process of issuing
citizenship documents to all Serbs who applied for them, accepted
Croatia as their homeland and fulfilled the requirements, Sarinic
announced.
He voiced concern over a recent assault on Croatian
journalists in Vukovar, demanding that the international community
use its influence to prevent further incidents of this kind and
remove all extremists from among the local Serbs who were hampering
the peaceful reintegration process.
