ZAGREB, Dec 5 (Hina) - At Thursday's session, the Croatian
government reached a Decision about the rehabilitation and
restructuring of the Privredna Banka Zagreb d.d. (PBZ).
Great investments were necessary because more than three
billion kuna would be needed for the rehabilitation of this bank
whose problems were said to have been accumulating during the last
thirty years, Prime Minister Zlatko Matesa said.
Governor of the Croatian National Bank, Marko Skreb, stressed
that the rehabilitation of the PBZ opened the possibility of
rehabilitation and restructuring of large public companies, clients
of the bank, especially the Croatian oil company INA.
During the rehabilitation, the bank will retain its high
financial reliability, Finance Minister Bozo Prka said.
The government also accepted reports on the rehabilitation of
the Rijeka and Split banks. The report said that the banks were
showing a profit and that a significant increase in foreign
exchange savings conveyed a regained trust of citizens in them.
