OSIJEK, Nov 26 (Hina) - International Commission for Missing
Persons (ICMP) members on Tuesday visited the eastern Croatian area
under the U.N. Transitional Administration, the Vukovar-based
UNTAES headquarters said in a statement.
At the headquarters the ICMP delegation met the Transitional
Administrator Jacques Klein, his deputy Derek Boothby and UNTAES
senior officials. They discussed the ICMP activities in the area of
the former Yugoslavia, according to the statement.
It added that Derek Boothby had represented the UNTAES at the
ICMP first session held in Geneva on October 11, 1996.
The ICMP delegation also met Croatian and Serb families who
were searching their missing members, in order to explain them
duties of the International Commission and to take advice on issues
that families believe are within the competence of the ICMP.
The ICMP commission consisted of the Commission's head Cyrus
Vance, UN high commissioner for human rights Jose Ayalo Lasso, the
president of the International Committee of the Red Cross Cornelio
Sommaruga, the OSCE national minorities high commission's president
Max van der Stoel, and a special aide to the commission's president
and a former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Herbert Okun.
