President Tudjman said that the head of the delegation, Mr
Vance, had to be familiar with the fact that Croatia had supported
the peaceful solution of the crisis in the region and that it was
ready to help in solving all humanitarian questions, especially
that of missing persons, the statement said.
Mr Vance said that the purpose of the Commission was to
constantly watch and see to it that the search for missing persons
be speedier, as well as to provide assistance for the families of
missing persons. The Commission would have permanent members from
Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Yugoslavia and the international
community. It would also have a permanent representative in
Sarajevo, Vance said.
Croatian Vice Premier Ivica Kostovic, who also attended the
meeting, said that Croatia had all documents on missing persons,
but that the international community had not helped in finding the
truth about a single missing person for five years.
We have a program of help for the families of missing persons
and we hope to find out the truth about the fate of 1,300 missing
persons from the Vukovar area, in cooperation with the U.N.
Transitional Administration in Eastern Slavonia (UNTAES), Kostovic
said.
