MINISTER GRANIC RECEIVES REPRESENTATIVES OF DISPLACED PEOPLE

Autor: ;JN;
ZAGREB, Nov 22 (Hina) - Croatian Foreign Minister Mate Granic met representatives of the Croatian Association of Displaced Persons in Zagreb on Friday. Minister Granic acquainted the displaced with further plans for the peaceful reintegration of the Croatian Danubian area pursuant to UN Security Council Resolution 1079 on the extension of the UNTAES mandate till July 15, 1997, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement. This Resolution was not the optimum solution for Croatia, but it nevertheless created a framework for implementing all that had been agreed by President Tudjman and the Transitional Administrator, Gen. Klein, by July 15, Granic said. There was a possibility that UN monitors may be deployed in the area during the six months following the expiry of the mandate and the full establishment of Croatian authority, Granic said. He stressed the importance of good cooperation with Gen. Klein for the timely holding of local elections and for speeding up the process of peaceful reintegration. Association representatives told Granic they were not satisfied with the position and living conditions of displaced people. The Government would address the matter at one of the next sessions, Granic pledged. The Association representatives were led by president Mato Simic. Also present was the President's advisor on humanitarian issues, Slobodan Lang. (hina) jn as 221546 MET nov 96
