CROATIAN FOREIGN MINISTER RECEIVES UNHCR ENVOY

ZAGREB, Oct 23 (Hina) - Croatia's Foreign Minister Mate Granic on Wednesday received a special envoy of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Carrol Faubert, in an inaugural visit. Minister Granic and the envoy Faubert discussed the cooperation between the Croatian Government and the UNHCR, according to a statement by the Croatian Foreign Ministry. Granic said Croatia was interested that the process of the peaceful reintegration of the Croatian Danubian area should be completed within a period agreed on by Croatia's President Franjo Tudjman and the U.N. Transitional Administrator of the area, General Jacques Klein. Granic cautioned that demands of Serb extremists for prolongation of the reintegration process could not be tolerated. The UNHCR might give significant contribution to the process of the return of Croatian displaced people to their hometowns and villages in the Croatian Danubian area, he judged. He reiterated that the Republic of Croatia would abide by all Europe's standards and mechanisms in the protection of human and minorities' rights. 231740 MET oct 96
