CRO GOVT ACCEPTS BIS SUGGESTION FOR DISTRIBUTION OF ASSETS OF FORM

Autor: ;LM;
FORM $ ER YUGOSLAVIA'S CENTRAL BANK ZAGREB, Oct 24 (Hina) - The Croatian government at Thursday's session accepted a suggestion of the Basil-based Bank for International Settlement (BIS) about the distribution of property which is being handled by BIS in the name of the National Bank of former Yugoslavia. The BIS suggested that the property be divided among successor countries in line with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) key for the distribution of assets and debts among successor countries, according to which Croatia would receive 28.49 percent of the total assets of the former National Bank of Yugoslavia (NBJ) at the BIS. On June 30, 1996, the assets of the former NBJ amounted to 600 million dollars in gold, foreign exchange and stocks. The government authorized the Croatian central Bank to issue and sign statements and documents necessary for taking over of property, in line with conditions and ways suggested in the BIS letter. The government endorsed the initiation of a procedure for the signing of a contract between the Croatian and Greek governments on the fight against illegal international narcotics trade, international terrorism and organized crime. The Croatian government also approved the initiation of a procedure for signing contracts with Qatar, France and Singapore governments on air traffic. Defense Minister Gojko Susak refuted an article in the weekly "Globus" entitled "Ivica Rajic, Indicted of War Crimes, Searched for by UN Security Council, Lives in Military Hotel 'Zagreb' in Split". Susak said this was a disinformation because it concerned a person who worked in maintenance of machines in the hotel. The Defense Ministry is to press charges against the weekly and the author of the article, Susak said. (hina) lm jn 241518 MET oct 96
