EXILED CROATIAN MAYORS MEET IN VINKOVCI

VINKOVCI, Oct 23 (Hina) - The exiled Croatian mayors of towns and municipalities in the UN-administered Danube river area of eastern Croatia met in Vinkovci on Wednesday to formulate demands that would be sent to the Croatian government. The mayors demanded the dismantlement of the so-called Serb District, the dissolution of the local Serb government and the introduction as soon as possible of a government that should be chosen in local elections. They also demanded the protection of property, including the prevention of the destruction of forests and the looting of timber. The mayors sent a note of protest to UN Transitional Administrator General Jacques Klein over his failure to respond to a request by Croatian refugees to be allowed to visit cemeteries in the area on All Saints' Day on November 1.
