ZAGREB, Oct 3 (Hina) - The Croatian Parliament's House of
Representatives ended a session on Thursday with a discussion on a
proposal by a group of opposition parties to take a vote of non-
confidence in Agriculture and Forestry Minister Matej Jankovic.
Peasant Party (HSS) deputies said that the aim of the proposal
was to draw attention to the intolerable situation in the
agricultural sector and to urge the government to take measures for
its recovery as soon as possible.
The HSS views were supported by representatives of the Social
Democratic Party and the Social Liberal Party. The latter
criticized the government for "policies which only encourage trade
and speedy enrichment by uncontrolled import."
Deputy Prime Minister Borislav Skegro said that the government
did not agree with the motion of non-confidence.
Responding to criticism, Jankovic said that export was
gradually growing and that a decrease in milk production was being
halted. A plan of incentives for next year was nearing completion,
he added.
Before the discussion on the non-confidence vote, the House
had debated the government's additional report on audit. Most
deputies argued that the report failed to provide data or answers
to questions on government spending.
