NEW YORK, Sept 26 (Hina) - "Croatia will aim to adjust its economy
to that of its European neighbours and then to join the big common
market. At the same time, Croatia will work with its eastern
neighbours on the establishment of normal inter-state relations and
the advancement of regional communication systems", Croatian
Foreign Minister Mate Granic, taking part in the 51st session of
the UN General Assembly, said at a lunch arranged by the U.S.-
Croatian Business Council in New York on Wednesday.
Croatia expected a soon agreement with Belgrade on solving the
matter of security on the bordering peninsula of Prevlaka, Granic
said.
"That won't include any territorial exchanges on the Prevlaka
peninsula - exchanges of territory haven't been mentioned. Croatia
nevertheless realizes that the Boka Kotorska bay (Montenegro) must
have a free and undisturbed access... and we shall work with
Belgrade and Podgorica to find an adequate security mechanism which
won't affect the Croatian territory there", Granic said.
Speaking on the cooperation with eastern neighbours, he said
that Croatia was more inclined to the American approach to regional
cooperation through the reconstruction of the infrastructure,
communications and the power distribution system, rather than to
the European, which was too ambitious.
Croatia's Foreign Minister concluded by saying that Croatia
expected that "the Danubian region shall be fully integrated into
Croatia early next year."
