DANUBIAN AREA
ZAGREB, Aug 29 (Hina) - Croatian vice-premier Ivica Kostovic on
Thursday held talks with U.S. Ambassador to Croatia Peter Galbraith
which focused on practical issues of the reintegration of the
Croatian Danubian area and the speeding up of the process.
After the talks, Kostovic said he and Galbraith discussed the
issuing of Croatian documents to Serbs from the Danubian area and
announced that another Croatian office for the issuing would be
opened, besides in Beli Manastir and Ilok, in Vukovar too.
Pointing out that Serbs had demanded for the extension of
UNTAES' mandate for another year, Kostovic reiterated the stance of
the Croatian government that only a three-month extension was
possible, and added that Croatia firmly persevered in the stance
that elections in that area take place around 15 December.
Galbraith evaluated that the reintegration process showed a
very good progress, and pointed out that the U.S. provided support
and aid for the process to be successful.
Galbraith also said that the U.S. welcomed the meeting
Kostovic held today with Serb representatives from the Croatian
Danubian area, which discussed practical issues on the way towards
a peaceful and full reintegration of that area.
