Recalling that the European Commission had set aside six
million dollars for the reconstruction of the Croatian Danubian
area, Fau stressed that the priorities in the first phase of the
process would be the reconstruction of the electric power and water
supply infrastructure, the reconstruction of several individual
buildings and the clearance of ruins and waste in Vukovar. He added
that the programme may begin in September.
Speaking of the possibilities of economic revival of the
Danubian area, Fau stressed that the European Commission was
considering additional resources, but that it had not been
established in which spheres the resources would be used.
Fau added that the reconstruction work would only be done by
companies which were registered with Croatian trade courts.
Paolini confirmed that the EU and European Commission would do
everything so that the projects may begin to be realized and so
help with the implementation of the Erdut Agreement.
After the demilitarization and stabilization of the area, the
next step would be economic reconstruction so that people would get
hope for a better life, Klein said.
