ZAGREB, June 3 (Hina) - The Monday edition of the Zagreb-based
daily VJESNIK includes a front-page article on ten advisory
referendums that were held in four Croatian counties on Sunday.
Vjesnik publishes a document "Status of the Serb district of
Eastern Slavonia, Baranja and Western Srijem," saying in part
that the Serbs in the remaining occupied areas of eastern Croatia
demand the right to a district parliament and government, flag,
coat of arms and national anthem, district citizenship, currency
and bank, district budget, their own taxes and customs duties.
"Demands for a State within a State" is the headline of an
article commenting on a proposal put forward by local Serb leader
Goran Hadzic for the special status of Serbs in eastern Croatia.
Croatia has sent a clear warning that it will not pursue peaceful
reintegration of the areas unless the Serbs rencounce such
secessionist ideas, the article says.
An article headlined "'Paper' Army of the Bosnian Federation"
says that despite a very precise agreement reached by Croat and
Moslem political representatives at a meeting of the Federation
Forum in Washington, it seems that the federal law on defence and
the setup of federal armed forces will not materialize.
Another Zagreb-based daily VECERNJI LIST covered Sunday's talks
in Geneva on further implementation of the Dayton peace accords
in Bosnia-Herzegovina under the headline "Everybody Waiting for
(Bosnian Serb leader) Karadzic to Resign."
