STRASBOURG, April 23 (Hina) - Three most important committees of
the Council of Europe's Parliamentary Assembly on Tuesday supported
Croatia's bid for full membership of the Council of Europe, the
head of the Croatian Parliament delegation, Zarko Domljan, said in
Strasbourg.
With support from the Committee for Political Issues, the
Committee for Relations with Non-Member States and the Committee
for Legal Issues and Human Rights, basic preconditions were created
for the favourable outcome of discussion on Wednesday, he said.
Domljan said that he anticipated that the discussion would not
go smoothly and that a certain number of parliamentarians would
oppose Croatia's admission.
"There can always be bigger or smaller surprises," he
cautioned.
Croatia's application for full membership would be discussed
at a plenary session of the Parliamenary Assembly due to open on
Wednesday morning and the final decision was expected around
midday.
