STRASBOURG, April 22 (Hina) - The Parliamentary Assembly of the
Council of Europe is to discuss the admission of Croatia into the
Council of Europe on Wednesday.
Parliamentary representatives of 39 countries, members of the
Council of Europe, will decide whether Croatia should be admitted
into this panEuropean organization.
A positive decision is to be reached by consensus or a
majority vote. If ten representatives demand an individual
declaration, then Croatia's application needs the support of the
remaining two thirds.
If a positive decision is reached, the parliamentary assembly
directs a recommendation to the Council of Ministers to formally
invite Croatia to enter the Council of Europe as a full member.
If the Council of Ministers reaches a positive decision
Croatia becomes a full member after signing certain documents.
Croatia expects to be admitted into the Council of Europe in
May.
