OSIJEK, Feb 22 (Hina) - The civilian affairs chief of the UN
Transitional Administration in Eastern Slavonia (UNTAES), Gerard
Fisher, met in Osijek on Thursday evening with the head of the
government office for restoration of Croatian authority in the
Danubian area, Ivica Vrkic, and the prefects of Osijek and Vukovar
counties, Branimir Glavas and Vlado Osust.
Fischer said that the talks focused on the reintegration
process under the mandate of the international community.
Decisions on the continuation of the peaceful reintegration of
the Croatian Danubian region would be made by Transitional
Administrator Jacques Klein when he takes office in the area,
Fischer said.
He described the cooperation with both sides as exceptionally
good.
Glavas stressed that Croatia strongly supported the peaceful
reintegration and international efforts in that direction.
He added that Croatian officials had provided additional
assurances that the Croatian authorities were no threat to Serb
citizens in the occupied area.
Glavas said he expected the active involvement of Serb
citizens in the process.
