ZAGREB, Feb 2 (Hina) - The Defence and National Security Council
convened on Friday under the chairmanship of President Tudjman to
discuss current political and economic issues, the President's
office said in a statement.
Following is the full text of the statement:
"Inter alia, the Council discussed cases of instigation and
organisation of strikes in a way that is contrary to union rights
and the Croatian legislation and which is aimed at achieving
personal material gain. Also discussed was political manipulation
by various groups with conflicting interests. Attention was paid to
the untimely actions and decisions of executive and judicial bodies
and attempts to exert undue influence on such bodies, as well as
the one-sided and irresponsible involvement of certain political
officials, which further complicates the process of finding a
solution through direct talks between the owners, the management
and the unions.
Without in any way casting doubt on the workers' right to
strike in accordance with Croatian laws, the Council calls on all
executive and judicial bodies to resolve all such problems as
efficiently as possible, with the aim of strengthening the rule of
the state, protect business operations, ensure the unimpeded offer
of services to citizens and preventing all forms of political
manipulation."
