ZAGREB, Jan 12 (Hina) - The normalization of relations between
Croatia and Yugoslavia will have a positive impact not only on
the implementation of the UN mandate in Eastern Slavonia but also
on overall developments in the region, UN special envoy to former
Yugoslavia Kofi Annan said in Zagreb on Friday after meeting
Croatian presidential chief of staff Ivo Sanader.
We have discussed the progress of relations between Croatia
and Yugoslavia after Croatian Foreign Minister Mate Granic's
visit to Belgrade and we all hope that it will result in the
normalization of relations, Annan said.
He said that the talks also focused on a new UN resolution
on the implementation of a peace agreement in Eastern Slavonia,
an area in eastern Croatia still under Serb occupation.
The UN Security Council was expected to pass the resolution
on Monday when the current UN mandate in Croatia expires.
