MOSTAR, Dec 30 (Hina) - The biggest progress in the implementation
of the Dayton Agreement in Bosnia-Herzegovina has been achieved in
Mostar and southern Bosnia in 1997, representatives of the
international community told a news conference in Mostar on
Tuesday.
Compared with 1996, this year has seen a cessation in fear and
intimidation, shootings, explosion and exiles, thanks to the
apprehension of criminals in February and March, head of the
regional office of the High International Representative in
Mostar, Martin Garrod said.
There had been progress in the establishment of the Bosniac-Croat
police and successfully held elections for the joint city council
and six Mostar municipalities.
Next year, the return of a large number of displaced persons and
refugees to the Canton and the Bosnian Federation would be the
centre of attention, Garrod said, adding that this was crucial for
the future of Bosnia-Herzegovina.
