TUZLA, Dec 22 (Hina) - U.S. President Bill Clinton on Monday evening
addressed U.S. soldiers situated in Stabilisation Force base Eagle
near Tuzla, northern Bosnia-Herzegovina.
I have come to Bosnia for two reasons, the U.S. President said, to
see you and thank you for all you have done so far in keeping peace in
this war-ravaged country, and to discuss the Dayton peace agreement
with Bosnian leaders.
President Clinton said he had seen many suffering people and
children in Sarajevo earlier today who begged him to make U.S.
troops stay in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
If U.S. troops had not come, the war would still be on in Bosnia,
Clinton said.
He recalled the positive role of the Bosnian municipal election and
the democratisation, albeit incomplete, of the media which,
President Clinton said, no longer talk about other national
communities with as much hatred as before.
