VUKOVAR, Dec 20 (Hina) - Representatives of the UN Transitional
Administration for the Croatian Danube river region (UNTAES,
Council of Europe and international non-government organisations
met representatives of Croatian authorities in the UN-administered
region's city of Vukovar on Saturday to discuss plans for the
construction of an inter-cultural centre in Vukovar.
Head of the Vukovar-Srijem County Education and Sports Office,
Zdenka Buljan, said after the meeting that this was an initiative by
the international community.
Various musical, literary, computer and other programmes would
take place at the centre for people all over the world, which is
aimed at the establishment of trust among the residents of
Vukovar.
The inter-cultural centre would also assist other cultural centres
in the city.
Representatives of Croatian cultural institutions basically
expressed support to the idea of the centre, stressing that it
needed to be planned in more detail, as well as that the problem of
financing had to be solved.
The project should be completed by spring in order to be included
among projects presented at the donors' conference next March,
Buljan said.
