VUKOVAR, Dec 5 (Hina) - The Vukovarska Banka in exile recently
opened an office in Vukovar where it collects savings books from its
pre-war customers in the Croatian Danube river region.
The Vukovarska Banka acting general director, Kata Gajari, told
reporters in Vukovar on Friday that after the bank obtained certain
information, it would consider the possibility of payment of
savings to all the bank's customers in the Danube area, whether they
were displaced persons or residents of the Croatian Danubian area.
The Croatian government and the Croatian National Bank would decide
on the final status of the Vukovarska Banka, which was expected to
happen by the end of the year, she said.
The bank's account is currently frozen. A total of 32 people worked
at the Vukovarska Banka offices in Zagreb, Vinkovci and Vukovar's
neighbourhood of Borovo, and 29 people were on the waiting list,
Gajari said.
