MOSTAR, 5 Dec (Hina) - As of Friday, Safet Orucevic is the new mayor
of Mostar. Ivan Prskalo was appointed Orucevic's deputy.
Members of the municipal administration of Mostar were elected at
today's constituent session of the Mostar City Council, in line
with the results of the municipal elections held on September 13 and
14.
The Coalition for Democratic and Integral Bosnia-Herzegovina, led
by the Party of Democratic Action (SDA), won 14 seats in the City
Council, while the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) won 10 seats.
Mayor Orucevic said in a statement that he would, as before, support
the construction of the city and the reconciliation of all people in
it.
Deputy mayor Prskalo said the preservation of peace was what he
considered the greatest success of his one-year mandate.
This is the return of peace, not the nonexistence of war, said the
head of the regional office of the Organisation for Security and
Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Mostar, David Foley, describing
today's session.
Earlier in the morning, while he was still mayor, Ivan Prskalo
visited the incoming head of the U.S. office in Mostar, James Wolf.
The U.S. office in Mostar is soon to be opened.
