UNHCR TO FINANCE PROJECTS OF RETURN OF SERB REFUGEES TO FEDERATION

FEDERATION ( Editorial: --> 0890 ) SARAJEVO, 14 Nov (Hina) - The U.N. High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) will finance the reconstruction of ten houses in Mostar to which Serb refugees, currently living on the territory of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, should return. UNHCR spokeswoman Ariane Quentier told reporters in Sarajevo Friday that the implementation of the project would start next week and end by the end of this year. The reconstruction of another 100 houses belonging to Serb refugees was being considered, said Quentier. That meant that necessary means would have to be gathered and that adequate accommodation would have to be secured for people living in those houses, she added. The next period could see more massive return of Serbs to Donji Lapac, in the Bosnian Federation, Quentier said. A delegation of Donji Lapac Serbs who fled their town in 1995 and are currently living in Bosanska Gradiska, in the Bosnian Serb entity, visited Donji Lapac yesterday. During the visit, Donji Lapac mayor called on the Serb refugees to return. The Serbs have been offered to return to 1,020 houses which can be reconstructed, Quentier said.
