OSIJEK, Dec 2 (Hina) - The Osijek City Council has awarded a "Gold
Seal" to American general Jacques Klein for his "great contribution
to the process of peaceful reintegration and the establishment of
Croatian authority in the Danube region".
The award was presented to the former UN Transitional Administrator
of the Croatian Danube region at a ceremony marking Osijek City Day
on Tuesday.
"Today, when the peaceful reintegration process shows its first
results, it should be stressed that Osijek provided strong
logistical support for that effort," Mayor Zlatko Kramaric told a
formal session of the City Council.
Klein said that he was moved by the award and added that it also
referred to his associates with whom he had worked on peaceful
reintegration for two years.
He noted that Croatia faced a great commitment to comply with all of
its obligations after the termination of the UNTAES mandate in mid-
January next year. The world will closely watch that compliance, he
added.
