OSIJEK/TENJA, 8 Nov (Hina) - The first bus of the Osijek Transport
Company, carrying displaced people from Tenja who travelled to
visit their homes, the vice president of the National Trust
Restoration Committee Ivica Vrkic, Osijek Prefect and President of
the County Trust Restoration Committee, Anica Horvat, and other
municipal officials, set out from Osijek for Tenja after more than
six years on Saturday.
The delegation was welcomed by Tenja municipal head Pero Rajkovic,
who stressed that the re-establishment of bus transport was a step
forward in creating conditions for the normalisation of life in the
area in the atmosphere of tolerance.
Deputy municipal head Tomo Povreslo expressed hope that the bus
line, which is to operate seven times a day, would serve to the
benefit of all residents of Tenja and contribute to the restoration
of trust as well as to the reconstruction.
The municipality of Tenja, which is to start functioning as a local
committee of the city of Osijek one year after the elections, was
founded by a former U.N. Transitional Administrator in Eastern
Slavonia, Jacques Klein. In the April elections, the Serb
Democratic Independent Party (SDSS) won the majority of votes in
the municipal council of Tenja.
