ZAGREB, 8 Nov (Hina) - The first 'European Union Film Festival',
organised by 11 embassies of EU member-countries in Croatia, opened
in Zagreb on 6 November. The festival is to last until 17 November.
The festival is to present 12 recent European films of which some
have already won international awards, said deputy Dutch
ambassador to Croatia, Joep Wnands.
Only Belgium - as a two-language country - will be presented with
two films - one in Flamish and the other in French, said Wnands.
The festival was opened in 'Europa' cinema with the Dutch film
'Little Sister' by Robert Jan Westdijk. Visitors will be able to see
the other 11 films in the cinema 'Jadran'.
Spain will be presented with the film 'A Portrait of a Woman with a
Man in the Background', Austria with the film 'India', Germany with
'The Church of St Nicholas', Finland with 'The Country of
Happiness', Belgium with 'Tongotango' and 'Toto the Hero'.
The audience will be able to see actor Max von Sydow in Sweden's
'Grandfather's Journey'.
France is to present its film 'How I Quarrelled...(My Sex Life),
Great Britain will present 'Something Wonderful', and Greece 'From
Snow'.
Italy's film 'Pianese Nunzio, 14 Years in May' will be shown on the
last day of the festival.
The festival is being held under the auspices of the Croatian
Culture Ministry.
