STRASBOURG/ZAGREB, Oct 24 (Hina) - The Council of Europe's
Ministers' Committee on Friday appointed Michele Picard as
chairman of the Office for Human Rights for Bosnia-Herzegovina,
which is competent for cases of human rights violation in both
Bosnian entities (Croat-Moslem, Serb).
Picard worked as judge at the Office since February 1996.
The Office, which includes eight international community and six BH
representatives, is financed by voluntary contributions from
Council of Europe member-countries and the Bosnian government.
At a recent Council summit, the U.S. said it would contribute USD
one million to the Office.
Picard will chair the Office for Human Rights for BH until March
2001.
