STRASBOURG, June 24 (Hina) - A Croatian parliamentary delegation on
Tuesday evening held a meeting with the Monitoring Committee, at the
Council of Europe's Parliamentary Assembly, in order to ascertain
Croatia's progress in the implementation of its commitments to the
Council of Europe.
Members of the Monitoring Committee, whose duty is to supervise how
Council of Europe member-countries meet their commitments, were
interested in the holding of the Croatia's recent, 15 June presidential
election, the cooperation with the Hague-based war crimes tribunal, the
freedom of the media, the efficacy of the police throughout Croatia, and
the return of Serb refugees.
"It was the Croatian delegation's first talk with the Committee,
since the procedure of supervising Croatia's commitments is just at the
beginning", said Zarko Domljan, the head of the Croatian delegation,
adding that the Monitoring Committee's reporters for Croatia, Gunnar
Jansson and Hana Suhocka, would soon visit Croatia.
