ZAGREB, June 13 (Hina) - Croatian Foreign Minister Mate Granic on Friday
received the chief of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)
mission in Croatia, Pierre Jambor, the Foreign Ministry said in a
statement.
Granic informed his guest about the government's view on the recent
unannounced return of Croatian citizens of Serb nationality from the
Croatian Danube region to Pakrac.
Granic stressed that it was very important that refugee returns
should be organised, safe and two-way.
He added that it was necessary that all parties should adhere to
their commitments from the programme of the return of refugees and
displaced persons, signed by the Croatian government, UNHCR and the UN
Transitional Administration in the Danube region (UNTAES).
Granic reiterated the Croatian government's commitment to
organising and ensuring the return of all displaced persons and refugees
who had registered with relevant authorities in line with the programme
of return.
Jambor said that the UNHCR had not participated in the return of
refugees to Pakrac. Expressing firm support to the views of the Croatian
government, he stressed that the UNHCR fully complied with the programme
and that it would continue to act in that direction in expectation of
the implementation of the return of displaced persons and refugees.
Granic also informed Jambor about a new law on humanitarian
organisations being prepared by the government and the need for re-
registration of all humanitarian organisations in line with that law,
the statement concluded.
