The first amendment refers to a $52-million donation intended
for the continuation of reconstruction of municipal infrastructure,
while the second amendment refers to a $19-million U.S. government
loan for the reconstruction of the country's financial
institutions.
The two amendments are a continuation of U.S. aid in the
implementation of the civil part of the Dayton agreement. The aid,
worth $600 million, was promised to Bosnia by U.S. President
Clinton.
The U.S. representative Ganz stated after the signing that the
amendments would have a strong effect on the country's economy.
The amendments are an example of how one should implement the
civil part of the Dayton agreement, which is currently at a
standstill, Silajdzic stressed.
