CROATIAN ARMY WON'T CONDUCT EXERCISES IN EASTERN CROATIA

Autor: ;VM;
ZAGREB, Feb 11 (Hina) - Croatian Army Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Pavao Miljavac issued an order on Tuesday that all preparations for military exercises in areas close to the UN-administered Danube river region of eastern Croatia should be suspended. The order was aimed at avoiding any negative political effects that might arise after the Croatian Army commander in the eastern town of Djakovo, Lt. Gen. Djuro Decak, had informed the commander of the UNTAES military force, Maj. Gen. W. Hanset, about possible Croatian Army exercises in an area close to the UNTAES-controlled territory. The Supreme Commander of the Croatian armed forces, President Franjo Tudjman, ordered Miljavac to appoint a commission to look into the circumstances under which this information had been sent to the UNTAES military commander, the Defence Ministry said in a statement.
