SARAJEVO, 18 Feb (Hina) - The situation in the Mostar area is still
calm and members of the Stabilisation Force (SFOR) are taking
necessary measures to maintain security in the town, SFOR spokesman
Tony White told a press conference in Sarajevo on Tuesday. #L#
SFOR soldiers yesterday carried out extensive searches of 142
vehicles in the Mostar area and confiscated an M-80 anti-tank
launcher from a member of the Croatian Defence Council (HVO) and a
gun from a civilian, Major White said.
U.N. spokesman Alexander Ivanko stated that results of an
investigation into incidents which happened some 10 days ago in
Mostar would be known by the end of the week.
Colum Murphy, spokesman for the office of the high
representative for the implementation of the peace agreement, said
that last week's events in Mostar could be described as a show of
gangster chauvinism and that such actions could not be tolerated
any more. He added that the power of persons standing behind those
acts had to be broken.
