CROATIAN GOVT INFORMS DISPLACED PEOPLE ABOUT LETTER TO U.N.

ZAGREB, Jan 15 (Hina) - Croatian Deputy Prime Minister Ivica Kostovic met a delegation of displaced persons on Wednesday to present them with the details of a letter by the government to the UN Security Council on completion of the peaceful reintegration of UN-administered eastern Croatia. The delegation was headed by the president of the Association of Displaced Persons, Mato Simic, and the meeting was also attended by President Tudjman's Deputy Chief of Staff Vesna Skare Ozbolt, Parliament Vice President Jadranka Kosor, Foreign Minister Mate Granic and the deputy head of the office for the UN-administered region, Mirko Tankosic. The government public relations office said in a statement that the participants in the meeting discussed each point of the letter as well as upcoming country-wide local elections. Kostovic stressed that the letter had been drafted in line with the Constitution and positive laws of the Republic of Croatia. Granic said that the document had met with a very good reception in the international community and that after consideration in the Security Council it was expected to be included in a presidential statement by the UN Secretary General. Kosor said that the letter would be discussed soon in the lower house of the Croatian parliament. Displaced persons presented their problems and demanded that the government take necessary measures to solve them. Simic said that his association would take a stand on the new aspects of the peaceful reintegration process and the government's letter at an extraordinary session scheduled to take place in Osijek on January 31.
