ZAGREB, Jan 17 (Hina) - The Serb People's Party (SNS) holds
that the Letter of Intent about the completion of the peaceful
reintegration of eastern Slavonia, Baranja and Western Srijem
should be adjusted, because "it offers less than the Erdut
Agreement". #L#
SNS President Milan Djukic told Friday's news conference
about five requests which, as he put it, should be entwined
into the adjustment of the document.
"These are the permanent demilitarization of the UNTAES-
administered area, a moratorium on military service of the
Serb community for five or more years, with addition that the
possibility of voluntary service is not excluded, the
equalization of rights of refugees and displaced persons,
whatever their nationality, that the Serb ethnic community be
giver the right to a county within the Croatian territory, and
that international community realistically judge on the
justification of these requests," Djukic said.
He said that a SNS delegation had recently visited
eastern Slavonia where they had held several talks with UNTAES
representatives, local authorities and common citizens.
He stressed that the most important thing was that local
Serb authorities had called the local Serb residents to apply
for Croatian documents and to vote at elections because it was
in their interest.
"This move contributes to a cessation of fear and
restores hope that a new exodus of Serbs from Croatia would be
avoided," Djukic said.
