The two officials discussed the peaceful reintegration of the
Croatian Danubian area.
After the talks, Ambassador Haak stated that the German
government appreciated very much the Letter of Intent (on the
completion of peaceful reintegration), sent by the Croatian
government to the United Nations.
As a state which has minorities, Germany knows that
normalisation is a very important thing, not only between states,
but between people as well. There can be no peace without
normalisation, Haak said.
Haak conveyed to Vrkic a message by the German Foreign
Minister Klaus Kinkel who said that the Letter of Intent was an
important step toward the peaceful reintegration of the Croatian
Danubian area into Croatia's state and legal system. Guarantees
given by the Croatian government were a good basis for all groups
in Croatia to live together, Kinkel said.
After the elections are over, Croatia will offer equal
conditions for work, life and participation in the development of
the country to all Croatian citizens living in the area, Vrkic
said.
Ambassador Haak was also received today by the Osijek County
Prefect Branimir Glavas.
