BELI MANASTIR, Jan 11 (Hina) - A Croatian parliament delegation
arrived in Beli Manastir on Saturday for a day-long visit to the
UN-administered Baranja area of eastern Croatia.
The ten-member delegation, led by parliament vice president
Vladimir Seks and head of the government office for the area Ivica
Vrkic, met the newly-appointed commander of the UN force, Major
General Willy Hanset, and his predecessor, Major General Jozef
Schoups, for talks on the situation in the Danube river region.
The meeting at the headquarters of the UN Belgian Battalion
was also attended by UN deputy transitional administrator Derek
Boothby.
Later on, the Croatian delegates are scheduled to meet
representatives of the local Serb population, Vaso Zigic and Rade
Arbutina.
They are also to meet Croat, Hungarian and Serb
representatives of the Baranja villages of Torjanci, Novi Bezdan
and Novo Nevesinje. The meeting was planned to take place in Novo
Nevesinje but the venue has been changed to Beli Manastir due to
bad weather.
The Croatian parliamentarians will also visit the village of
Zmajevac to meet its representatives along with those of the
villages of Suze and Batina.
