GENEVA, 22 Jan (Hina) - A working group for Croatia's
admission to the World Trade Organization (WTO) will open a
session on Thursday in the WTO headquarters in Geneva. #L#
The working group includes a Croatian delegation, high
WTO officials and representatives of the WTO member countries
which are interested in economic cooperation with Croatia.
During the two-day session, the Croatian delegation is to
answer questions about Croatia's macroeconomic system, foreign
trade and customs regime and the level of compliance of
Croatia's legislation with WTO rules.
The Croatian delegation is to hold bilateral talks with
Swiss and Slovene representatives as well as with the
representatives of other interested WTO countries on customs
concessions and privileges in the area of services.
The Croatian delegation includes Assistant Economy
Minister Slavko Begic, Assistant Agriculture and Forestry
Minister Luka Stojakovic and other 15 officials and experts
from various government ministries and state agencies.
Croatia has the status of an observer in the WTO. After
another round of talks in the second half of 1997, Croatia is
expected to become a full WTO member in 1998.
