ZAGREB, 17 Jan (Hina) - Two out of the three world leading agencies
for the estimation of a country's credit rating put Croatia in the
40th place of a list with 64 countries the credit rating of which
had been estimated, Croatian Premier Zlatko Matesa told a press
conference in Zagreb on Friday. #L#
IBCA from London and 'Standard and Poor's' from the United
States marked Croatia's credit rating with 3B minus (BBB-), which
was direct acknowledgment of Croatia's macroeconomic policy, Matesa
said.
With its credit rating, Croatia joined other countries like
Hungary, Slovakia, Poland and Greece.
A third estimation, which is to be performed by the agency
Moody's, would be known in a couple of days.
The credit and investment rating gives a realistic picture of
Croatia - the way others see Croatia in international relations,
Matesa said.
Finance Minister Bozo Prka was also satisfied with the
assessed credit rating. Croatia's credit rating meant that foreign
loans would be cheaper and that possibilities for foreign
investment in Croatia would increase, Prka said.
Croatia's credit rating confirmed the past economic policy and
the government orientation, as well as that of the Croatian
National Bank (NBH), but it was also binding, NBH governor Marko
Skreb said.
Credit rating is estimated every six months.
It is expected that the next credit rating will be even more
favorable for Croatia, Vice Premier Borislav Skegro said.
Croatia had been handicapped in the credit rating procedure,
especially by its eastern neighbours, Skegro said.
