KLEIN SATISFIED WITH TUDJMAN'S STATE OF THE NATION ADDRESS

Autor:
VINKOVCI, Jan 23 (Hina) - Transitional Administrator of the Croatian Danubian area, General Jacques Klein, on Thursday expressed satisfaction with Croatian President's State of the Nation address. Speaking in UNTAES radio's broadcast, Klein said that Wednesday's address by President Tudjman took account of the fact that the Serb national minority would remain in the Croatian Danubian area and cast their vote there. The message to the Serb national minority was clear. The war is over and Croatia's future is in Europe. Future of people in the Croatian Danubian area is in Croatia, as their property, culture and tradition are there and they have the right to stay, Klein said. He added that refugees and displaced people represented a big problem, but the UNTAES would overcome it certainly. Commenting on the Croatian Government's Letter of Intent on the completion of peaceful reintegration of the Danubian area, he said it offered greater rights to the Serb national minority than the Erdut-Zagreb Basic Agreement. A spokesman for the UNTAES, Philip Arnold told the radio that over 1,000 retirees in the Croatian Danubian area had received 500 kuna in the two days. Of 1000, 500 pensioners got Croatian documents, and rest of them had already received them. According to Arnold, more than 30,000 people in the area have received Croatian citizenship certificate and a number of them is growing. (hina) mš 232328 MET jan 97
