ZAGREB, Jan 27 (Hina) - Croatian President's deputy chief-of-staff,
Vesna Skare-Ozbolt, on Monday received the OSCE High Commissioner
for national minorities, Max van der Stoel, accompanied by Albert
Nooij, an ambassador of the Organization for Security and
Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), the Croatian President's office said
in a statement.
The talks revolved round the process of the peaceful
reintegration of the Croatian Danubian area.
The OSCE High Commissioner spoke highly of the Croatian
Government's Letter of Intent on the completion of peaceful
reintegration, that is now the matter on which the UN Security
Council is to decide. He said that by such letter Croatia had made
an important step in completing the entire process and that it was
necessary to ensure that Serbs would accept the offered proposals.
The Croatian official Skare-Ozbolt said that through its
proposal for speedy and successful completion of the reintegration
Croatia had reaffirmed its readiness for a peaceful solution
guaranteeing to Serb population all civil and minority rights.
She added that the holding of elections soon in the Danubian
area would enable Croatian authority to be established and
displaced people to return to their homes in the Croatian Danubian
area.
