Uzdol villagers remember 41 Croat victims of 1993 massacre

Autor: mses
SARAJEVO, Sept 14 (Hina) - The 18th anniversary of the massacre of 41 Croats in the southern village of Uzdol, committed by the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina, was commemorated at religious services and other events on Wednesday in that village in the municipality of Prozor.

On 13 September 1993, the predominantly Muslim units of the Bosnian Army raided the Croat-populated village of Uzdol and killed 29 civilians and 12 soldiers of the Croat Defence Council (HVO). The youngest victim was 10 years old and the oldest 87.

So far, no one has been held to account for those crimes. The International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) has acquitted a wartime Bosnian Army commander, Sefer Halilovic, of the Uzdol atrocities.

During today's requiem mass, Croatian Military Bishop Juraj Jezerinac said that politics had not brought peace to villages such as Uzdol as it had failed to bring to justice those responsible for the crime and that no efforts had been made to create conditions for a sustainable return of refugees.
