FIRE ON PELJESAC PENINSULA STILL ACTIVE

( Editorial: --> 4382 ) ZAGREB, Aug 18 (Hina) - The fire near Dancana on the Peljesac peninsula (Dubrovnik-Neretva County) was still active by 3.00pm Tuesday. The fire is being fought by professional and volunteer fire- fighting troops, Croatian army soldiers and members of special teams of the Civil Defence, as well as two canadairs and two helicopters. Another canadair will be included in the activities as of Tuesday afternoon. About 200 hectares of pine forest and underbrush are on fire, the Interior Ministry's Fire-Fighting Operative Centre said. The fire near Sadin, in the Split-Dalmatia County, has been put under control at about 12.30pm. Around 150 hectares of pine forest and underbrush have been engulfed by the blaze. Fires on mount Svilaj and near Jelsa on the island of Hvar have been put out. All fires in the Zadar County have been put out, and locations are still being watched, the Centre said.
