ZAGREB, Aug 15 (Hina) - There is no visible fire on the island of
Korcula Saturday morning. Fire-fighters have been soaking the
ridges of fire locations during the night and putting out the
remaining fires.
All available fire-fighting planes and helicopters have been in
operation since early Saturday morning to soak the borders of the
fire locations, the government Crisis Committee reported at
9.30am.
The fire near Oklaj is under control.
The blazes near Celina, Omis municipality, are still active on the
north side and is spreading to the rocky mountainside where
fighting it on ground is difficult. It was mostly underbrush and low
pines that caught the fire.
Helping the Croatian fire-fighting forces are three Canadairs and
two helicopters - four Austrian and two German SFOR helicopters.
A Russian fire-fighting plane arrived Friday night to join in
fighting the blazes, the Committee said.
