ZAGREB, 15 Aug (Hina) - There are no visible fires on the island of
Korcula but there are many still active fire scenes.
During the day, fire brigades were drenching fire-ravaged areas and
containing other active fire scenes. Fire brigades are still on the
ground, the Government Crisis Committee said in a report at 6.30pm
Saturday.
The fire near Celina in the Omis municipality (Split County) is
active on its northern front. The fire is spreading towards the
mountain peak which cannot be accessed by firefighters.
The fire has consumed mainly underbrush and low pine trees.
Around 12.00 a fire broke out on the location Dugo Polje-Koprivno,
on the Split-Sinj road. The fire is being fought by professional and
volunteer fire brigades and the Croatian army.
The fire, which was put under control at 5.30pm, consumed about 30
hectares of grass and underbrush.
Another fire broke out this afternoon near Knin, Sibenik County.
The fire has spread to a pine forest. A Canadair plane joined fire
brigades on the ground at 5pm.
Two fires were reported in Zadar County during the afternoon. The
first broke out on Vir island and was contained at 4.30pm.
About 190 hectares of underbrush and grass have been consumed by the
fire.
The second fire, which broke out in Glogovo near Gracac (Zadar
hinterland), is being contained.
At 1.15pm a fire was reported on the location Stepcici-Krsan. The
fire has caught grass and underbrush.
Fire brigades are on the ground trying to contain the fire.
